The Scrapstore and the City Works venue at Alfred Street, Gloucester, are run by The Gloucestershire Resource Centre (GRC) to promote the principles of ‘re-use’ through arts, education, and play in a vibrant environmentally conscious venue for social enterprise, businesses, and community groups to create, meet, and work.
We share aspirations with the other Scrapstores and Resource Centres operating throughout the UK to:
The Gloucestershire Resource Centre (Charity Number 1047985) has been providing the Scrapstore service to the county since 1986 and is one of the most established Scrapstores in the country.
In 1992 a capital fundraising campaign was launched to help find a permanent home for the Charity. City Works was purchased in 1995 and refurbished over the following six years at a total cost of £708,000. It was an ambitious endeavour at the time but proved to be worthwhile as City Works enables us to generate a significant amount of our annual income.
We still have funds to raise every year so if you would like to contribute funding to the GRC, please get in touch with Lin Mathews, Chief Executive Officer, who will give you all the information you need.
City Works is not only an excellent place to house the Scrapstore but home as well to numerous arts and community organisations and small enterprises whose activities all contribute to the vibrancy of the building and the success of the project as a whole.
We have a fabulous dance studio and meeting rooms as well as busy art spaces and studios. Local organisations looking for room hire or office rental will find City Works, Gloucester only a few minutes walk from the train station and city centre.
We have one of the largest community owned solar installations in the region. These help keep running costs to a minimum and benefit not only the GRC but also everyone who rents our offices or use the amenities. And for local small enterprise looking for environmental office rental, City Works might be a winning choice. And, of course, basing your organisation here helps our charitable work that in turn helps Gloucestershire communities.
