The Scrapstore and City Works at Alfred Street, Gloucester, are run by The Gloucestershire Resource Centre (GRC) to promote the principles of ‘re-use’ through arts, education, and play in a vibrant environmentally conscious venue for associations, businesses, and community groups to create, meet, and work.
We share aspirations with the other Scrapstores and Resource Centres operating throughout the UK to:
The Gloucestershire Resource Centre (Charity Number 1047985) has been providing the Scrapstore service to the county since 1986 and is one of the most established Scrapstores in the country.
In 1992 a capital fundraising campaign was launched to help find a permanent home for the Charity. City Works was purchased in 1995 and refurbished over the following six years at a total cost of £708,000. It was an ambitious endeavour at the time that has proved worthwhile as City Works enables us to generate a significant amount of our annual income needs.
Invariably we have a shortfall in funds to find every year. If you would like to contribute funding to the GRC, please get in touch with our Managing Director, Lin Mathews, who will give you all the information you need.
City Works is not only an excellent place to house the Scrapstore but home as well to numerous arts and community organisations and small businesses whose activities all contribute to the vibrancy of the GRC and success of our project as a whole.
We have a fabulous dance studio and meeting rooms as well as busy art spaces and studios. Local commercial companies looking for room hire or business office rental will find City Works Gloucester only a few minutes walk from the train station and city centre.
Our solar panels help keep running costs to a minimum and benefit not only us but also small businesses and start-ups who rent our offices and use the amenities. And for local business looking for environmental office rental, City Works might be a winning choice. And, of course, basing your business here helps our charitable work that in turn helps Gloucestershire’s local community.
Do you care about the environment and our impact on it? Are you energetic, enthusiastic & organised? Keen to contribute to grass roots community arts? Care about how the job is done, not just getting the job done?
We are looking for a SCRAPSTORE CO-ORDINATOR to:
• Maintain contact, arrange & carry out collections from businesses supplying Scrapstore;
• Be responsible for the storage & display of materials in the warehouse;
• Serve customers visiting the Centre using the point of sale system.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a broad set of skills, a good communicator and keen to take on responsibilities. Our small team delivers an exceptional service that tackles unwanted materials going into the waste stream by diverting them to enrich local community activities.
If you are looking for a worthwhile organisation to work for where you can make a real difference to Gloucestershire communities, then we want to hear from you.
